URBANIME is a black-owned comic book and culture brand, created by Chris Walker. Based in NYC, Chris is a talented creative and brand strategist, having worked with brands like Marvel & DC Comics and artists like Ghostface Killah and P-Diddy.

On Sunday, February 28, URBANIME dropped its first comic book, Relic Vol 1. We are honored to be a part of this release. Check it out, and order the book, here. Also, join the Twitch Launch Party on Sunday 2/28 from 6pm – 8pm ET to hear from the artists, musicians and producers behind the scenes. Do it for the culture.

Chris and Timbuk2’s resident “make it happen guy”, Steven Fisher, started collaborating and integrating URBANIME and Timbuk2, based on a shared commitment to furthering culture and community.

So, we did what we are good at–we threw a party (back when we could safely do so). We turned our Manhattan Shop into a comic book signing party and gave glimpses into URBANIME’s first comic book.

Through the COVID-19 pandemic, URBANIME has only sped up. Last month, they launched their latest release, which is a comics & culture zine called Mixtape Volume 1. They celebrated the launch with a Twitch live stream party, featuring the Bay’s own Sway Calloway. The mixtape is more than just a comic book. It’s an experience that expresses black and brown culture within the comic book experience. It’s influenced by hip-hop, fashion, and the best black and brown creators around. Check it out here.

The characters in the comic book of course all rock Timbuk2 bags as willing sidekicks. Above, Troy wears the Rascal Belt Bag. Art by Ryan Odagawa, J.J. Kirby, Chris Walker, & Alex Wong

In celebration of Black History Month, we are proud to introduce URBANIME to the Timbuk2 community and give a shout out to this collective that is building a legacy around the intersection of culture and comics. We are honored to continue working with this crew of creatives that think big and lift people up.

While Black History Month ends on February 28, the journey is just beginning. Keep an eye out for more drops coming your way. Follow Timbuk2 and URBANIME on Instagram to stay up to date.
